Timothy H. Widener
(
www.thwidener.com)

The recipient of many awards, Widener’s work has been shown throughout the world and in many prestigious galleries and museums. His work is, whenever possible, based on the actual studies made from life. Although this sometimes calls for extreme measures and distant travel, Widener believes it is necessary for authenticity and accuracy. Any subject may inspire the artist to create an image, but most often a painting has its impetus in the many emotions, states or habits of the people around us. But, instead of focusing exclusively on the figure, the natural world is substituted, including birds and animals as allegorical images to help illustrate these qualities. “I do not want to be anthropomorphic, but when I see a large flock of crows screaming in late Fall, or a sun setting blood-red on a hot Summer’s day, how can one not equate a human feeling to this?”

Widener has work on permanent displays in many cities throughout the Midwest including Lansing, Detroit, Troy, Farmington Hills and Mackinaw Island, all in Michigan, as well as Chicago,  Illinois. His work is featured in many private collections in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as often being included in such prestigious shows as the Kentucky National Wildlife Art Exhibit and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson ‘Birds in Art’ show. To further his ability, Widener pursued his formal training both as an apprentice and in the academics, earning his Bachelors' in Fine Arts in Painting and Masters in Art History from Michigan State University.
